Tea is one of my favourite drinks – and if you’re anything like me, you may have, on occasion, taken your favourite tea bags with you in your handbag. One of the biggest issues I found with this is that they (the tea bags) were always getting dirty or damaged from other things in my bag. I tried different options – ziplock bags, tiny plastic containers, and coin purses, but everything I tried was either too bulky, or just not right somehow.
One afternoon, I was playing around with some fabric offcuts, and I started making a small purse. It wasn’t my intention at first to design what would become the below product, but during construction, I realised that I was in the midst of creating something that would solve my ‘how to take my tea bags with me’ problem. I kept working and playing around with ideas, adding a colourful lining and press studs to close it with.
When I finished, I popped two tea bags – peppermint and camomile – in the little tea baglet (as I’d decided to call it), and put it in my work bag to test out my idea. It worked out to be just right – I’ve now been using my own tea baglet (black wool with a blue and white gingham lining), for just over a year, and would often get comments from people who’d seen me open it up at work and take out a tea bag.
I then started making a few as presents, and discovering that the people I’d gifted them to were using them quite a bit! So I’ve decided to test out my product even more, by readying a limited run of 100 tea baglets for my Etsy store, (which is on hiatus right now, but will go live again in late January 2017). Each one is made by me, and if you’re lucky, I’ll even include a little surprise with your order ♡
